EASY AUTUMN SKINCARE ROUTINE: IN THE CORRECT ORDER!

‘Tis the season of more luxurious layers – and no, we’re not just talking about your wardrobe here but your skincare routine! The seasonal change means your skin needs to rug-up too: Think richer moisturisers, deeper treatments, and nourishing balms to keep your skin protected so you can glow on all through Winter.

So, let’s take a look at what makes up the perfect Autumn skin regime and how to nail your skincare routine order so that you apply your products in the right way. And yes, this does matter, because if you don’t layer them correctly, your skin won’t get the full benefit. And we’re all about skincare that gets results at The Well Store!

We’re going to guide you through it in just six easy steps. Get ready for a pampering Autumn skincare routine that’s a treat and not a chore!

 Let’s begin!

 Step 1: Cleanse

You should all know by now that a good skincare routine starts with cleansing your face. It’s essential to remove the day’s make-up and the nightly grime that you can’t see. The key to great cleansing however is to be gentle. If you use a product that’s too harsh, you’re going to strip your skin and could end up exacerbating existing skin issues.

A great cleanser that our customers love is Brilliantly Brightening Cleansing Gel by Acure. Vegan and cruelty-free, it’s suitable for all skin types (no wrong cleanser worries here!) and its gentle formula removes make-up, dirt, and oil to leave your skin feeling fresh. It contains an antioxidant cleansing complex that maintains your skin’s mantle whilst promoting cell growth and is packed with natural ingredients including chlorella growth factor, pomegranate, blackberry, and acai.

Step 2: Exfoliate (gently!)

A couple of times a week, it’s a good idea to exfoliate. Exfoliation removes dry skin, unclogs pores, and basically ensures that your skincare products can penetrate your skin to have the maximum effect. But you’ll want to steer clear of overly-harsh scrubs with those nasty plastic micro-beads! Bad for your skin and the environment! Exfoliation these days is a much kinder process for the earth and for your face. Try Sattwa So Smooth Foaming Exfoliant. There are no plastic granules and chemicals in this Australian-made natural foaming cream – it uses mild olive oil soap and finely-ground walnut shells to leave your skin glowing. Oh, and did we mention it has the most amazing aroma? That will be thanks to its Lavender and Grapefruit essential oils. This exfoliator is an Autumn must-have!

 Step 3: Tone

Skin toners are a prepping step for the serums and moisturisers that follow, removing any trace of your cleanser and exfoliator and giving you the optimum blank canvas for all those sumptuous skin treats to come. Not a fan of toner? We’re not surprised – most traditional toners are full of skin-drying astringents. Which is the last thing you want for a skin-plumping Autumn skincare routine! So how about a new way to tone the skin? Say hello to Bio Juice by Skin Juice. It’s a toner, but not as you know it. It’s made with natural ingredients like Chamomile, Aloe Vera, and Cranberry, providing an instant drink to thirsty dehydrated skin whilst calming redness, sensitivity, and fighting free radicals as well.

 Step 4: Serum

Ah-ha! You thought we were going to say ‘moisturise’ next, didn’t you! After your toner actually comes serum. Serums need to be applied before moisturiser because they are specifically formulated to deeply penetrate the skin. Serums are your skincare secret weapon that are packed with ingredients to fight specific skin issues, like ageing, fine lines, and dullness. For Autumn, we love Glowing Skin Smoothie from Edible Beauty, which contains hydrating, soothing, and protective ingredients including Broccoli Seed Extract, a natural alternative to retinol for a youthful and even skin texture and tone.

 Step 5: Moisturise

The sheer magnitude of moisturiser choice and its labelling is baffling at the best of times. Do you go for anti-ageing? Hydration? For Autumn, you’ll want a rich, protective formula – so let’s keep it simple. Simple As That Moisturiser is exactly what it says on the jar. Pharmacist formulated, it’s made with three basic, skin-loving natural ingredients – Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil, and Shea Butter. Tick for anti-ageing, tick for lifeless dull skin, and tick for antioxidants! It’s a fuss-free – and stress-free – way to moisturise all through Autumn, Winter, and beyond.

And don’t forget your eyes need their own moisturiser too! The skin around your eyes is thin, super-delicate, and needs TLC all year round as it’s prone to the signs of ageing. Dab on some Eye Love Juice – a silky eye cream that protects against environmental damage, premature ageing, and calms and soothes the eye area. Or for firming, try La Mav Organic Firming Eye Lotion, to smooth lines and wrinkles around the eyes.

Step 6: SPF for day and face oils for night

And the final step (daytime only, obviously!) is…sunscreen! Yes, we know it’s Autumn, but UV rays don’t go away just because the temperature starts to drop. A good chemical-free SPF is the last layer of your seasonal skincare routine. Think of it as your Autumn jacket - you’ll be glad you’re wearing it when you’re out and about. If you’re new to natural sunscreen, try Simple As That Natural Sunscreen Lotion. SPF 30, it’s a 100% natural all-mineral sunscreen providing broad-spectrum protection through its non-Nano Zinc Oxide formulation. It also has Green Tea, Rosehip Oil, and Raspberry Seed Oil.

At night, your last skincare routine step is a nourishing face oil. Face oils are generally used at night to give you a beauty boost whilst you sleep. As with serums, there is a range of face oils that target specific skin concerns. You only need a few drops as face oils are concentrated - pat and push the oil into your skin and wake-up to complexion perfection! A good all-rounder to try is Vanessa Megan Nature’s Elixir Face Oil, an organic, replenishing, and restoring multivitamin shot for the skin that’s great for Autumn.
